The Distracted Server
Luke 10:38-42 depicts the story of Martha inviting Jesus into her house. Martha's sister (Mary) was there as well and she sat at the feet of Jesus listening to Him. This frustrated Martha, which I could only imagine how she felt. She was busy working and serving while everyone else got to enjoy the person she invited to her home. Interestingly enough, the Bible doesn't say that Martha was "busy" serving. Instead, in verse 40 it says that Martha was distracted with much serving. In same verse, Martha asks Jesus to tell Mary to help her serve if He cares that she is not helping. Jesus responded by saying, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her”. You mean to tell me that a person can actually serve so much that they become distracted, even if the serving is for the Lord? The answer is absolutely. Unfortunately, there are many people that have fell in the same category as Martha at some time. Some of us may even need to evaluate our lives today. Is there anything that is presently causing us to be distracted? If so, we need to refocus and choose the good portion...Jesus. Let's make serving Him our main priority.
