The Great Wall of Deception Part 3

In the Old Testament, cities built walls around their cities to protect their cities from enemies. It was thought, that the bigger the wall the better. The New Testament shows that we are capable of doing this very same thing in our minds. Specifically, in 2 Cor 10:5, the Scripture tells us that we can take every thought captive to obey Christ. It is when we don't do this, that we allow walls to be built in our minds. There is an important note to remember about walls. Whenever there is a wall built, it may initially protect, but it also prevents the protected from seeing out too. Our eyesight is hindered from seeing people, just like people can't see us fully. This example is also shown in Joshua 6 when God instructed Joshua to invade Jericho. He told Joshua to instruct them to walk around the wall for seven days. What was amazing about this is that Jericho had no idea that anyone was coming because their walls were built so high that in their observation, they could not see a nation of people walking outside their perimeter for a whole week. Additionally, the city of Jericho did not let anyone in or out of the city. Joshua 6 also shows us that a wall does not guarantee us protection from being hurt. It may make it more difficult to get hurt, but it does not prevent it. It also shows that it is virtually impossible to get to know people fully if we are not willing to open ourselves up to allow people to get to know us too. Today, let's ask God to help us to tear down our own walls of deception.
