Killing Us Softly
Anyone that lives in the DC area would agree that traffic is horrendous. You are sure to be in bumper to bumper traffic during rush-hour and you are also bound to see a few erratic drivers. I remember a few years ago I witnessed someone swerving during heavy traffic and in a matter of 30 seconds, they almost caused 3 accidents. It made me realize that a large amount of people are impatient. All of this made me think about the fruit of the spirit (Gal 5:22-23), specifically patience. Seeing that erratic driver, that day, gave me an example in the natural of the importance of having patience. If it's that important in the natural to have it, then we have to know that in the spirit it is even more important. We have no idea the depth of what the importance of the fruit of the spirit in the spirit realm. Galatians 5:23b states that there is no law against the fruit of the spirit. One thing laws do is provide a benchmark for things to be evaluated against. For example, If the speed limit is 45 mph, then that is the benchmark for speed on that road and anything over that is considered speeding. Well, with patience, there is no benchmark for us to even attempt to measure the value of it. Here's what we do know...Not having patience can kill you. Not only you, but the people around you too!
