What's the Other Side
Recently, I was listening to a morning radio show that was taking calls about a specific topic to get caller's opinion. What stood out to me was that the radio host had a particular opinion and they seemed to try to get callers to agree with them instead of listening to the caller's opinion fully. I understand that in the end, the radio show is still in the entertainment business and that interacting with the callers that way helps to gain ratings, but it reminded me of something. Often we listen to people without really listening or hearing the words within the words. We may hear them, but we don't try to understand why they said what they said or shall I say "put ourselves in their shoes". Sometimes we even do this with the Bible. Take Jesus for example, whose healings of may people are recorded in the Bible. Of which, there are at least 7 instances (Listed below) that Jesus asked those that He healed to go and say nothing to no one about it. Why would Jesus say this to people? Shouldn't He want them to tell everyone what he did? Have you ever done something for someone and months later that person was still thanking you? How did you feel? Would you want them to tell everyone that they know what you did for them? Now imagine how Jesus' felt when he healed people all the time. Jesus instructed some to tell no one because of the other side! What is the other side you ask? It was his human side. Often we acknowledge that Jesus is God, but when reading the scripture we must also remember that He is human as well. He is 100% man and 100% God, which is also called the Hypostatic union. Jesus' human side did not want people to tell everyone of what He did. Next time you are in a conversation with someone, focus on the words within the words. Put yourself in their shoes and ask yourself, "What's the other side".
